Homestyle Japanese Tofu
Homestyle Japanese tofu wraps the tender Japanese tofu in a golden crispy crust, a three-minute quick stir-fry that becomes the star of the table, delivering a crispy, tender, savory hit to the taste buds.
Ingredients and Tools
- Japanese tofu (tamago tofu)
- Green bell pepper
- Carrot
- Ham sausage (optional)
- Black fungus (optional)
- Onion (optional)
- Starch
- Garlic
- Oil (for frying tofu, enough to cover more than half)
- Light soy sauce 8 ml
- Oyster sauce 15 ml
- Salt (savory)
- Chicken bouillon (savory, optional)
- Ketchup (sweet and sour)
- White sugar (sweet and sour)
Measurements
- Japanese tofu 300 g (about 3 pieces)
- Green bell pepper 120 g (1 medium)
- Carrot 50 g
- Ham sausage 50 g (about 1 piece)
- Black fungus 30 g (dried black fungus about 10 g, soaked)
- Starch 80 g
- Onion 30 g
- Garlic 10 g (about 2 cloves)
- Oil 160-165 ml
- Light soy sauce 8 ml
- Oyster sauce 15 ml
- Salt 2 g (if adding chicken bouillon, only add 0.5 g or none)
- Chicken bouillon 3 g
- White sugar 10 g
- Ketchup 15 ml
Steps
- Slice the carrot, cut the green pepper into thin pieces, and mince the scallion and garlic
- Open the package of Japanese tofu and cut it into about 1 cm thick cylinders
- Put starch on a flat plate, ready to coat the tofu
- Gently place the tofu on the flour, coating both sides and the edges; do not coat too thick
- Add 150 ml oil to a flat-bottomed pan, enough to cover more than half of the tofu; when the edges turn golden, flip and fry
- When both sides are fried, remove and place on a clean plate for later
- Pour 10-15 ml oil into a wok, add scallion and garlic, stir-fry until fragrant, then add green pepper, carrot, ham sausage, and black fungus
- Add oyster sauce, light soy sauce, salt, chicken bouillon, white sugar, and ketchup
- Stir-fry gently until the color is even

- Do not leave the fried tofu for too long; prepare the ingredients in advance
